Keele Veterinary Referrals is established with a vision of setting new standards in veterinary referral care. We are located within the Garden Vets Practice and Teaching Hospital on the Keele University Campus.
Our ethos centres on a better service and better deal for Pet Owners and veterinary professionals alike. We treat every animal with respect, compassion, and dignity. Don
Don graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1995. Following graduation he worked at the PDSA. In 1998 he took up a position as Surgical Registrar at the Animal Medical Centre Referral Services. During this time he attained the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. After a happy 7 years he was appointed as a Lecturer in Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery at the University of Glasgow. He achieved the European College of Veterinary Surgeons diploma in Small Animal Surgery in 2011; becoming an ECVS and RCVS Specialist. Don subsequently founded Dogwood Referrals; a private orthopaedic and neurosurgical referral practice in 2014. Don is interested in all aspects of orthopaedics and neurosurgery; particularly fracture repair, angular limb deformities and spinal decompression.

Horatio
Horatio gained a certificate in small animal surgery in 2015 and was recognised as an Advanced Practitioner in this field by the RCVS in 2019. He worked in several diplomat and Certificate lead surgical Referral Hospitals where he contributed to improving the standards and the level of service offered.

Elise
Elise graduated with honours from Colorado State University (1998) and The Royal Veterinary College, London (2003). She runs a peripatetic endoscopy and endosurgery referral service in SE England and holds quarterly clinics in the Middle East and SE Asia. She frequently lectures and provides practical courses worldwide. Her post-graduate training in medical and interventional endoscopy and ‘key hole’ surgery from well-known human paediatric & neonatology endoscopy hospitals in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the US, and Thailand. Elise balances clinical work, teaching, and publishing in feline medicine, endoscopy, and endosurgery. She lectures for ISFM/University of Sydney, co-lectures at Colorado State University, and is a visiting professor at Chulalongkorn University. She’s a recipient of the 2017 BSAVA Frank Beatty Travel Scholarship, 2018 BSAVA PetSavers Award for her meritorious contributions as a veterinary surgeon in small animal veterinary practice and awarded Fellow Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for her contributions to the advancement of veterinary endoscopy education.

Sheila
Sheila obtained her degree in Animal Science from the University of Reading in 1994 followed by her Veterinary Degree from the Royal Veterinary College, University of London in 1998. She operates a peripatetic canine and feline endoscopy service for first opinion and referral practices in the Mid-Wales, Shropshire and Staffordshire regions of the UK. Sheila spent five years in primary care small animal practice before undertaking a residency in Feline Medicine at the Feline Centre, University of Bristol, which she completed in 2006. She has led several small animal medicine departments within large veterinary referral hospitals across the UK including the Animal Health Trust, Wey Referrals and Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists.
